The article analyses the IMC-Gitter (Individual Motive Constellations Grid) with respect to reliability measures and factor structure. The IMC-Gitter was developed in order to measure achievement motives, power motives and affiliation motives simultaneously. The article is based on data collected with N=244 persons during personnel selection processes. At first the development and empirical experiences with the IMC-Gitter are presented. This section is followed by on item analysis which shows acceptable item difficulties, overall high corrected item-total correlations and satisfying or good internal consistencies of the scales. on additional confirmatory factor analysis proves at least five of six postulated factors. It can be shown that the two-dimensional structure of the fear of failure motive cannot be measured with the IMC-Gitter. Either improvements of the two scales or alternatively the condensation to a single scale of 'fear of failure' are recommended.... view less
