"The white settler regime in South Africa, which was racist and sexist at the same time, oppressed and humiliated black men. In addition, the militarization of the society influenced the development of structural and gender-based violence in South Africa. After some innovative legal reforms and the introduction of gender policies by the ANC government in the 1990s some ANC politicians has become hostile against women's organisations and gender organisations. At the same time these organisations have to cope with the violent heritage of Apartheid." (author's abstract)... view less
