"The paper explores the extent to which the constitution of childhood varies in different child-related institutions based on perspectives from the social childhood studies. It compares two pedagogical institutions: schools and residential care. The focus of attention is those who are addressed as children by both institutions, i.e. those who are both 'children in schools' and 'children in residential care'. The empirical data consists of the autobiographical narratives of these children collected in interviews. The findings show how different childhood constructions of (social-) pedagogical institutions are displayed in the life stories of children." (author's abstract)... view less
