"Seit etwa 30 Jahren werden in Deutschland Alphabetisierungskurse für Erwachsene angeboten. Dieses Angebot wurde in den letzten 15 Jahren verstärkt auf den gesamten Bereich der Grundbildung ausgedehnt. Doch diese Kurse sind in unserem Bildungssystem nicht fest verankert, sondern werden vor allem von Volkshochschulen ausgebracht. Die Lehrenden sind zum größten Teil Honorarkräfte mit sehr unterschiedlicher Qualifikation, festgeschriebene Anforderungen im Hinblick auf die Kompetenzen der Lehrenden gibt es nicht. Im Rahmen des BMBF-Förderschwerpunktes Alphabetisierung und Grundbildung gibt es mehrere Projektverbünde, die sich mit der Professionalisierung der Lehrenden befassen und inzwischen Weiterbildung auf unterschiedlichen Niveaustufen anbieten, bis hin zum Master-Studiengang Alphabetisierung und Grundbildung, der 2009 an der Pädagogischen Hochschule Weingarten implementiert wurde." "In Germany, courses for adult literacy development have been offered for 30 years. During the last 15 years, such programs have been extended to the whole domain of Adult Basic Education. However, courses for adult literacy development are mostly offered by adult education centres and do not constitute an integral part of the German educational system. In addition, there is no standardized teachers' training and the qualifications of the teachers vary considerably. The Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBF) has established a project on Adult Literacy and Basic Education which supports the development of different pre-service and in-service teachers' training programs. One of these is the Master of Arts program 'Adult Literacy Development and Basic Education', which was implemented at the University of Education at Weingarten in 2009."
