(Autorenreferat)... view less

"The issue of acceleration, which with regard to Eastern Europe is well captured in the notion of 'catchup modernization' (Zapf) together with the idea of a normative movement of change, is crucial to the transformation of the institutional framework as well as everyday life in the former socialist countries of Eastern Europe. In many ways young people were and are affected by this change. Using the example of a young Lithuanian in transition to the world of work, this essay illustrates how certain aspects of the phenomenon of acceleration can be reflected in a single case. Finally, these are translated into tentative hypotheses on the possible effects of neo-capitalist acceleration on young people." (author's abstract)... view less
