(Autorenreferat)... view less

"It will be discussed the importance of pain for taking new roles using the example of two fields of the health care system. Giving evidence for physical fragility pain is an intrinsic force that motivates identity shifts. However this socially shaped process applies also (and maybe particularly) for the socialisation in undesirable roles studied in the areas of palliative care and of medical rehabilitation of traumatic spinal cord injured patients. In pain interaction and pain strategies new roles and role segments as dying and as disabled are negotiated. Pain management is balancing pain, freedom of pain and bodily consciousness. Case examples are provided taken from participant observations." (author's abstract)... view less
