"The access and return travel of holidaymakers to the tourist destinations as well as the mobility at the holiday destination itself is mostly carried out by private car. This leads to significant environmental impacts with the corresponding negative effects on the climate. In order to work against this trend, an early integration of strategies and policies on the different planning levels, which take into account a climate-friendly handling of the tourist-related traffic, is crucial from the perspective of spatial planning. In particular, informal planning instruments like regional management offer good possibilities to support a climate-friendly mobility of holidaymakers because of its local operating context and project orientation."
