Raumforschung, Raumplanung und NS-Vergangenheit: Forschungsstand, Deutungen, Kontinuitäten

Abstract

In der zweiten Hälfte der achtziger Jahre erschienen die ersten dizplingeschichtlichen Veröffentlichungen über die Rolle von Raumforschung und Raumplanung in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus. Die damals beginnende innerfachliche Aufarbeitung der Vergangenheit der Disziplin und ihrer Vertreter, die bis heute andauert, wurde stets von der Zeitgeschichtsforschung flankiert, die sich besonders den Aktivitäten von Wissenschaftlern und Planern in den eingegliederten und besetzten Ostgebieten während des Zweiten Weltkriegs gewidmet hat. Der vorliegende Aufsatz gibt einen Überblick über den Forschungsstand zur Geschichte der NS-Raumforschung und -Raumplanung, betrachtet den Umgang der NS-belasteten Disziplinvertreter mit der eigenen Vergangenheit und beleuchtet einige Aspekte jener personellen und institutionellen Kontinuitäten, die den Übergang der Disziplin in die Bundesrepublik prägten.

The second half of the nineteen eighties saw the publication of the first studies into the history of this discipline to address the role of spatial research and spatial planning during the years of National Socialism. The initial inner-disciplinary attempts to come to terms with the history both of the discipline itself and of its representatives – a process which continues to this day – was always supported by contemporary historical research dedicated in particular to the activities of scholars and planners in the incorporated and occupied eastern territories during the Second World War. This paper provides a survey of research into the history of spatial research and spatial planning during the period of National Socialism; it considers the ways in which representatives of the discipline who were encumbered by their role during the years of National Socialism attempted to come to terms with their own past; and it sheds light on some aspects of the personal and institutional continuities which conditioned the transition which the discipline underwent with the birth of the Federal Republic of Germany.
