(Autorenreferat)... view less

"The study at hand deals with overweight in children from an urban ecology perspective. At first, the interdependency of social, spatial and health related inequality is analyzed on a theoretical Basis. Starting from that theoretical basis, the socio-spatial distribution of overweight is tested empirically using data of the school entry examination in 2006 of the City of Stuttgart (N = 4646). The results indicate that first graders show different rates of overweight depending on the urban district they live in. Moreover, first graders with migration background are particularly affected. Logistic regression analyses reveal that children of Turkish parents bare the highest risk rate regarding overweight. Finally, preventive and counter measures against overweight in children are suggested." (author's abstract)... view less
