"This paper sketches a conceptual framework for a theory of business ethics drawing on Evolutionary Economics. There is a fundamental difference between neoclassic decision-theory and the evolutionary approach. Indeed, the former stresses the maximization of utility while the latter emphasizes routines, habits, and norms. The author suggests, to enrich these categories with an ethical dimension in the Kantian tradition, as developed in the work of Max Weber. This perspective enables us to discuss three issues central to business ethics (i) the link between individualistic and institutional approaches as well as (ii) that between the organizational structure of a firm and its environment. In addition to these theoretical insights, (iii) the author proposes to clarify some related practical consequences by sketching the process of 'organizational socialization' of firms."
