"Nowadays, in times of globalization worldwide competition and the number and influence of transnational corporations are significantly increasing. Therefore, it is argued that by being good corporate citizens they should enhance the well-being of their holt society beyond their core business. Nevertheless, researchers and NGOs criticize certain issues of this project. This article explores wether positive statements by the corporations illuminate the reality of corporate behavior in Myanmar with benefits for the host society or are just public relations in order to justify a profitable investment in a repressive environment. The abundance of critical voices rather suggests he latter." (author's abstract)... view less
