Einige vertreten die Ansicht, dass sie ineffizient sein müsse, weil sie nicht freiwillig vereinbart wird, sondern nur aufgrund eines Gesetzes zustande kommt. Andere betonen verschiedene mögliche Vorteile betrieblicher Mitbestimmung. In diesem Beitrag werden dazu sechs theoretische Ansätze unterschieden, wie Betriebsräte ökonomisch wirken könnten, bevor empirische Evidenz für den tatsächlichen Betriebsratseinfluss auf verschiedene Performancemaße präsentiert wird. "There is no consensus on co-determination among economists. Some believe codetermination has to be inefficient because it is not arranged voluntarily, but exists only due to binding laws. Others advocate the various potential advantages of codetermination, especially at the plant-level. Thus, this article identifies six theoretical approaches to the economic impact of works councils. Then, empirical evidence is presented concerning the real effects of works councils on different performance measures. One key result is that much depends on whether managers are able to take steps to avoid any negative effects of works councils." (author's abstract)... view less
