"The focus of this work is the allegedly simple question of what professional wrestling as a hybrid entertainment combination of game and sports is actually all about: What constitutes the phenomenon and 'entity' of wrestling? To which degree can it be referred to as a game - and, more concretely, which subcategory of games? What does authenticity really mean in the context of staged performance? What is the position of wrestling towards the 'fake' and how does contemporary pro-wrestling incorporate this as a specific theme into its program? Furthermore, the author wants to investigate fandom and its specific modes of reception that oscillate between analysis and affection, which both constitute basic elements for the fan discourse and add to the curiosity of the recipients."
