"The article is based on an evaluation of the Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle Multimedia-Diensteanbieter e.V. (Voluntary Self Regulation Multimedia, FSM), probing the potential for optimization inherent in the new FSM rating procedure. 5 group discussions with 14 raters were conducted and analyzed (using the documentary method). The analysis showed the considerable and, in part, problematic impact of the implicit knowledge resulting from professionalism on how a case is constituted and understood in the rating procedure. Based on these findings, the question is discussed whether including qualitative and reconstructive methods in the education and training of raters - and more generally of evaluators, consultants, and mediators -will produce a professional sensitivity which, in turn, should enable raters to more effectively control the impact of implicit knowledge on their constitution and understanding of cases."
