Vor Polens EU-Beitritt hegten die Menschen in der deutsch-polnischer Grenzregion neben politischen Hoffnungen auch spezifische Befürchtungen in Bezug auf die künftige ökonomische Entwicklung. Umfragen in beiden Grenzregionen zeigen, dass Hoffnungen auf Wohlfahrtsgewinne und bessere Arbeitsmarktchancen auf westpolnischer Seite Sorgen der Ostbrandenburger über neue Konkurrenzbedingungen auf dem Arbeitsmarkt gegenüberstehen.
