'Based on four autobiographies written by emigrants from Nazi Germany, the paper addresses the process leading to emigration. Its aim is to come to a deeper understanding of how the individuals concerned perceive, and interpret, their life under Nazi rule, rather than reduce them to being mere victims of events. This perspective is reconstructed by generating biographical resources from the autobiographies. The approach extends the way biographies may be analyzed without affecting the openness of the methodological approach, or the subject-centered structuring.' (author's abstract)... view less
