Die Performativität der qualitativen Sozialforschung

Abstract

In den letzten Jahrzehnten hat sich die qualitative Sozialforschung in den Sozialwissenschaften etabliert. Diese Etablierung ist institutionell und sozio-kognitiv sehr unterschiedlich erfolgt. Von Beginn an haben in der qualitativen Sozialforschung die Wissenschaftskritik, die Wissenschaftssoziologie und die methodologische Reflexion die Selbstbeobachtung bewerkstelligt. Lange stand dabei der Vergleich mit der quantitativen Sozialforschung im Mittelpunkt. In den letzten Jahren fokussiert die Selbstbeobachtung der qualitativen Sozialforschung zunehmend auf ihre eigenen Prozesse und Kriterien. Das Konzept der Performativität erscheint geeignet, diese Fokussierung der Selbstbeobachtung theoretisch zu fundieren. Es hat sich insbesondere in der Actor-Network Theory und den Social Studies of Finance als fruchtbares Konzept erwiesen, um die Analyse der Wissenschaftspraxis zu rekonstruieren. Der Artikel will das Performativitätskonzept einführen und die involvierten Dimensionen im Feld der qualitativen Sozialforschung aufzeigen. Es wird eine erweiterte Perspektive auf eine Soziologie der Sozialforschung entwickelt.

Within the last two decades qualitative social research has established itself in most, if not all, of the social sciences. But this emergence has proceeded very differently in institutional and in socio-cognitive aspects. From the beginnings of qualitative social research, critical stances toward science , the sociology of science, and methodological reflexivity organized self-observation. For a long time qualitative social research compared itself primarily to quantitative social research. But in the last years, qualitative social research began focusing more on its own processes and evaluative criteria. The concept of performativity is suitable to ground a theoretical reflection on this new focus in self-observation. This concept has proved useful in analyzing the practices of science, especially in approaches as Actor-Network-Theory and Social Studies of Finance. The article introduces the concept of performativity and describes those dimensions most relevant for the field of qualitative social research. An extended perspective for a sociology of social research is developed.

En las dos décadas recientes la investigación social cualitativa se ha establecido en la mayoría, si no en todas, las ciencias sociales. Aunque esta emergencia ha sucedido diferencialmente en aspectos institucionales y socio-cognitivos. Desde los orígenes de la investigación social cualitativa, afirmaciones críticas hacia la ciencia, la sociología de la ciencia y la reflexividad metodológica organizaron la auto-observación. Por largo tiempo, la investigación social cualitativa se comparó a sí misma principalmente con la investigación social cuantitativa. Pero en los últimos años, la investigación social cualitativa comenzó a enfocarse más en sus propios procesos y criterios de evaluación. El concepto de performatividad permite fundamentar una reflexión teórica sobre este nuevo foco en auto-observación. Este concepto ha probado ser útil al analizar las prácticas de la ciencia, especialmente en enfoques como la Teoría-Actor-Red y Estudios Sociales de las Finanzas. Este artículo introduce el concepto de performatividad y describe esas dimensiones más relevantes para el campo de la investigación social cualitativa. Se desarrolla una perspectiva amplia para una sociología de la investigación social.
