The story of a French life-writing archive: "Association pour l'Autobiographie et le Patrimoine Autobiographique"

Abstract

1992 habe ich gemeinsam mit Freunden in einer kleinen französischen Stadt, Ambérieu-en-Bugey, ein neuartiges Archiv gegründet, das von unbekannten Personen alle Arten autobiografischen Materials (also Erzählungen, Tagebücher, Briefe usw.) akzeptiert, dieses Material indexiert und für interessierte Leser/innen (darunter auch Soziolog/innen, aber vor allem Historiker/innen) verfügbar macht. Über die Daten wird auf zweierlei Weise informiert: über einen Katalog, den Garde-mémoire, der zweimal jährlich gedruckt wird, und über die Webseite der Association pour l'Autobiographie (APA). Bisher liegen ca. 3.000 Texte vor, die für unterschiedliche Bereiche sozialwissenschaftlicher Forschung von Interesse sind.

In 1992 and in a small town, Ambérieu-en-Bugey (France), some friends and I founded a new sort of life-writing archive, accepting from unknown persons any autobiographical items (narratives, diaries, letters), reading and indexing them, and opening them to any interested reader or researcher (among them sociologists, but mainly historians). This data are described both in a biennial printed catalog, the Garde-mémoire, and on the Association pour l'Autobiographie (APA) website. Nearly 3000 texts have been so far collected, read and offered to any form of social science study.

En 1992, un grupo de amigos y yo fundamos, en la pequeña ciudad de Ambérieu-en-Bugey (Francia), un nuevo tipo de archivo de historias de vida escritas, aceptando cualquier documento autobiográfico (narrativas, diarios, cartas) de personas desconocidas, leyéndolos y catalogándolos, y poniéndolos a disposición de todo lector o investigador interesado (entre ellos sociólogos, pero fundamentalmente historiadores). Estos datos se describen tanto en el catálogo que se edita bianualmente, el Garde-mémoire, como en la página web de la Asociación para la Autobiografía (APA). Hasta la fecha cerca de 3000 textos se han recogido, leído y puesto a disposición de las diversas formas de investigación social.
