The discovery of ruthless criminality makes the labeling approach superfluous

'In the seventies the idea was very common in critical criminology that social control and criminality were parts of 'one world': They were not considered to be opposites. It was assumed that social control causes criminality. Therefore criminology had to consider one single theoretical examination. This concept was briefly explained with the labeling approach. In the present time the concept of 'two separate worlds' has been re-established. Criminality and social control are beeing analysed independently, the labeling approach has been rejeced. This change cannot be explained by deficiencies of this approach. The labeling approach loses its attractions because the number of advocates of punishment increases and because the currently manifested development of criminality offers criminologists fewer and fewer chances to articulate their social criticism by this approach.'
