(Autorenreferat)... view less

'Recent contributions on the future development of the welfare state postulate very contradictory trends. One position assumes that the welfare state is losing the social and political bases of legitimacy as a consequence of social structural changes. the other position expects that these processes of modernization of the social structure will stabilize the modern welfare state. After discussing the central theoretical arguments of both positions empirical data are presented to evaluate those positions. The data do not support the thesis that the German Welfare state is losing its social and political legitimacy.' (author's abstract)|... view less
