(Autorenreferat)... view less

'This paper tries to offer a theoretical explanation of violence against asylum seekers and immigrants in Germany after the unification. Two research questions have to be answered: 1. what are the conditions leading to violent behavior on a micro-level of individuals? 2. how can the sudden and dramatic increase of violence on the macro- or system-level be explained? To answer these questions a theory of attitude and a threshold-model of collective violent action in aggressive crowds are formulated and applied. Finally the reinforcing role of mass media is discussed.' (author's abstract)|... view less
