'The study deals with the situational analysis of everyday crime combining concepts from a General Theory of Crime (Gottedson/ Hirschi 1990) and Rational Choice Theory into a unifying framework. In particular, the study asks whether influences of Self-Control on everyday crime are mediated by the subjective expected utility (mediator model), or whether influences of the subjective expected utility on everyday crime depend on Self-Control (moderator model). A mail survey (n=2081) is carried out using scenario techniques. The results of the empirical analyses support the mediator model which should be preferred to the moderator model. Finally, the methodological implications of the study are discussed.' (author's abstract)|... view less
