(Autorenreferat)... view less

"Kaliningrad newspapers published from January to September 2001 in which conceptions and expectations regarding the future of the Russian exclave in view of the EU enlargement by Poland and the Baltic States are expressed. The focus is on the question, how relations of a future enclave within the EU to the EU and to Russia are supposed to be. It is pointed out that two basic orientations should be distinguished: in fear of becoming isolated, a majority of the voices raised in the press desires an approach or even integration into the EU. At the same time, the desire for demarcation from the west, which is caused by the fear of losing national identity due to the Europeanization of Russia, has to be taken seriously. A separation of the Oblast from the RF, however, in general is no issue." (author's abstract)... view less
