'Die 'International Standard Classification of Occupations' von 1988 (ISCO-88) stellt das Instrument dar, das für die Harmonisierung der Klassifikation von Berufen in der international vergleichenden Forschung verwendet wird. ISCO-88 ist ein hoch komplexes Instrument, das etwa 30.000 Berufe in 390 Kategorien abbildet. Bis heute ist es nicht möglich, die Berufe nach ISCO-88 im Feld zu verschlüsseln.
