'The study conducts a test of two 'moderation hypotheses' claiming a particular moderation of the social determination of anti foreigner attitudes by specific contextual effects. These effects are set off by the spatial variable 'proportion of foreigners in local residential area'. Several linear structural equation models with the latent construct 'anti foreigner attitude' are estimated applying both ML-ROBUST and WLSMV methods using data of a local German survey. The results can verify both moderation hypotheses: in the socio-spatial context of a high local proportion of foreigners, the effects of socio-demographic predictors are positively enforced following a particular distribution of enforcement power. However, this is restricted to attitudes concerning the rejection of foreigners. The social determination of life satisfaction acts in a different way. Thus, the moderation works selectively. The author regards the hypothesis of selective moderation as an extension of the sociodemographic explanation of anti foreigner attitudes. It incorporates socio-spatial characteristics into an originally individualistic scheme of explanation.' (author's abstract)|... view less
