(Autorenreferat)... view less

'Infrastructure constructions can refer to different interests in society. For instance, economic and ecological arguments often contradict each other. In addition, individual concerns of the involved abutters and diverging priorities of the political decision makers are added. Therefore, the implementation of such projects may be accompanied by considerable conflicts. This article deals with three case studies focusing on roads, railways and energy supply. The case studies demonstrate how conflicts develop and what the reasons are for the delay and sometimes even failure of projects. The behaviour of different actors in such conflict situations is being critically discussed. The analysis concludes with suggestions how projects relating to infrastructure can be implemented more successfully and how a de-escalation of conflicts may be achieved.'
