In the paper, the specifics of various types of subcontracting linkages around research-based spin-off firms is considered, their dissemination degree in Belarus is assessed, and their economic effects are discussed. The paper shows, that though RSOs' subcontracting relations are organised through price mechanisms, they are surrounded by many non-market interactions, including tacit knowledge and reputation. The paper is based on case studies of research-based spin-off firms in Belarus and Estonia and provides the qualitative empirical evidence on RSOs which can be used both for further in-depth analysis and for the formulation of particular quantitatively provable hypotheses.... view less
