The author of the article presents and compares the functioning of the citizens' initiative in Switzerland and in Poland. He puts forward a hypothesis that (some solutions of Swiss direct democracy concerning the popular initiative enriching Polish political system by) introducing some of the solutions close to Swiss popular initiative could be beneficial for the Polish political system under certain conditions. He also claims that at least two of these conditions will not be met in the short term. This claim is supported, among others, by the fact that the majority of Swiss taking part in the voting is guided by arguments other than those of most Polish voters. The arguments guiding the Swiss are mentioned (to a limited extend) in the description of two popular initiatives included in the article.... view less
