Im Beitrag wird die anhaltende Debatte in den USA über Schwarze Kinder unter dem Stichwort "Adultification" (Adultifizierung) diskutiert. Der Begriff dient als Konzept, um die Tatsache kritisch zu benennen, dass diese Kinder nicht "als Kinder" mit den Eigenschaften wahrgenommen werden, die üblicherweise in Europa der Kindheit zugeschrieben werden, sondern als Menschen, die eher wie Erwachsene sind. Aufgrund ihrer rassistischen Konnotation hat diese Zuschreibung schwerwiegende, meist negative und manchmal sogar fatale Folgen für junge Menschen. Der Artikel greift diese Debatte auf, indem er verschiedene Ebenen von Adultifizierung analysiert und andere mögliche Erklärungen für rassistische Diskriminierung und Gewalt gegen Schwarze Jungen und Mädchen anbietet. The article discusses the ongoing debate in the U.S. regarding Black children under the key word 'adultification'. This term is used as a concept to critically name the fact that these children are not perceived 'as children' with the characteristics usually attributed to childhood in Europe, but as people who are more like adults. Because of its racist connotation, this attribution has serious, mostly negative and sometimes, even fatal consequences for young people. The article addresses that debate by analyzing different levels of adultification and offering other possible explanations for racial discrimination and violence against Black boys and girls. Particular importance is attached to the question how childhood is conceived, especially with regard to 'innocence' as a supposedly universal characteristic of this phase or age group.... view less
