Räume sprechen, Diskurse verorten? Überlegungen zu einer transdisziplinären Ethnografie

Abstract

In dem Beitrag werden die Möglichkeiten und Erkenntnisgewinne einer transdisziplinären Verschränkung der analytischen Kategorien "Raum" und "Diskurs", insbesondere für die kulturwissenschaftliche Stadt- und Öffentlichkeitsforschung, ausgelotet. Ausgangspunkt dafür ist eine gemeinsame Forschungserfahrung der Autorinnen, die interdisziplinäre Ethnografie politischer Raumaneignungen in Mexiko-Stadt, bei der sich die jeweiligen Spezialisierungen (ethnografische Raumforschung bei WILDNER, semiotische Diskursanalyse bei HUFFSCHMID) kreuzten. Diese "Kreuzung" wird hier zunächst in ihren konzeptionellen Prämissen nachvollzogen und anschließend nach Lerneffekten für die analytische Praxis befragt. Ausgangspunkt dafür ist die Annahme der gegenseitigen Durchdrungenheit von Räumlichkeit und Diskursivität: kein Raum (im Sinne von LEFEBVRE) kann ohne seine diskursive Konfiguration gedacht werden, Diskurs (im Sinne FOUCAULTs) wiederum ereignet sich nicht im "luftleeren", sondern in einem sowohl materiell wie auch sozial konstruierten Raum. Diskutiert werden die methodischen Ansätze der Beobachtung, Lektüre, Beschreibung und Analyse räumlicher wie diskursiver Praktiken und Materialitäten. Anhand des Fallbeispiels der Wahlkampfveranstaltung wird schließlich nach den Schnittstellen und möglichen Verschränkungen zwischen Raum- und Diskursforschung gefragt, die an den Begriffen Setting/Bühne/Inszenierung, Einschreibungen, Kontrolle/Macht expliziert werden.

In this article the possibilities for and attainment of knowledge in a transdisciplinary combination of the analytical categories "space" and "discourse" are explored, focusing on research of the urban and the public in the area of cultural science. The background of this article is a shared research experience in an interdisciplinary ethnography project investigating political appropriation of urban space in Mexico City. In this project ethnographic research on urban space by WILDNER and the semiotic analysis of discourse by HUFFSCHMID were combined. In the first part of the article the conceptual assumptions of this intersection are discussed, followed by questions about what was learned from the respective analytical practices. Our assumption is the interpenetration of space and discourse: no space (as discussed by LEFEBVRE) can be acknowledged without its discursive configurations; meanwhile discourse (as discussed by FOUCAULT) does not take place in a void, but rather in a material as well as socially constructed space. The authors discuss different levels of methodological approaches as observation, reading, description, and analysis of spatial and discursive practices and materiality. On the basis of the case study (three closing events of the election campaign in Mexico City 2006) possible interfaces and intersections between research on spaces and on discourses are delineated in connection to the concepts of setting/stage/dramatization, control/power, and inscription.

En esta contribución se exploran las posibilidades y ganancias epistemológicas de un entrelazamiento transdisciplinario desde las ciencias culturales de las categorias "espacio" y "discurso", particularmente en la perspectiva de la investigación de lo urbano y lo público. El punto de partida es una experiencia de investigación compartida por las autoras: la etnografia interdisciplinaria de las apropiaciones políticas en la Ciudad de México, en la que se cruzaron las respectivas especializaciones como son la investigación etnográfica del espacio en WILDNER y el análisis semiótico del discurso en HUFFSCHMID. El artículo recapitula primero sobre las premisas conceptuales de este "cruzamiento" para luego preguntar en torno a los aprendizajes de las respectivas prácticas analíticas. La hipótesis de partida es la compenetración de las dimensiones de discursividad y espacialidad: el espacio (en el sentido de LEFEBVRE) no puede ser pensado sin sus configuraciones discursivas, mientras que el discurso (en el sentido de FOUCAULT) no ocurre tampoco en la "nada", sino se sitúa en un entorno espacial construido tanto material como socialmente. Las autoras discuten distintos niveles de los métodos de investigación, tales como la observación, la lectura, la descripción y el análisis de prácticas y materialidades discursivas y espaciales. Con fundamento en un estudio de caso (tres cierres de campaña en la capital mexicana en 2006), se plantean una serie de intersecciones y entrelazamientos entre la exploración del espacio y del discurso, explicitados en los conceptos de escenario/escenifiación, inscripciones y control/poder.
