Review: Harald Welzer (Hrsg.) (1999). Auf den Trümmern der Geschichte: Gespräche mit Raul Hilberg, Hans Mommsen und Zygmunt Bauman

Abstract

Drei Wissenschaftler, die über den Holocaust forschen, geben Auskunft über ihr Leben, Werk und vor allem über ihre Motivation und ihr Erkenntnisinteresse, sich mit dem Holocaust zu beschäftigen. Lebens- und Forschungsthemen sind deswegen bei ihnen eng verknüpft und kreisen um die zentrale Frage, wie der Holocaust beschrieben und erklärt werden kann. Der Herausgeber Harald WELZER arbeitet den allen dreien gemeinsamen Kristallisationskern mittels erinnerungs- und biographietheoretisch angelegten Interviews heraus. Im Buch sind aber nur die Interviews wiedergegeben, so dass es vor allem auf die Rezeptions- und Rekonstruktionsleistung der Rezipierenden ankommt.

Three (social) scientists who research the holocaust discuss their lives, their work and, especially, their motivation and personal interest in studying the holocaust in search of new insights. Their lives and work, therefore, are closely woven together. Both revolve around the central question: How can the holocaust best be described and understood and how we can account for its having happened? The editor, Harald WELZER, succeeds in crystallizing the issue using memory and biographically oriented interviews. Only the interviews are reported in this book, however, leaving it to the reader to reconstruct and interpret the events.

En búsqueda de nuevo saber, tres científicos (sociales) que investigan el holocausto debaten sobre sus vidas, sus trabajos y, especialmente, sus motivaciones e intereses personales al estudiarlo. Sus vidas y trabajos están, por lo tanto, estrechamente entretejidos. Ambos aspectos giran en torno a la cuestión central: ¿Cómo puede describirse y comprenderse mejor el holocausto y cómo podemos dar cuenta de lo que ha ocurrido? El editor, Harald WELZER, logra cristalizar el tema utilizando la memoria y entrevistas biográficamente orientadas. En este libro sólo se reportan las entrevistas, si bien, éstas permiten al lector reconstruir e interpretar los eventos.
