Review: Andreas Wernet (2000). Einführung in die Interpretationstechnik der Objektiven Hermeneutik

Abstract

WERNET stellt in seinem Buch sowohl die theoretischen Hintergründe der Objektiven Hermeneutik als auch die praktische Vorgehensweise der Methodik vor. Die Gewichtung liegt dabei auf den methodentechnischen Kernoperationen der objektiv-hermeneutischen Textinterpretation. Die wichtigsten methodischen Stichworte und Prinzipien werden im ersten Drittel des Buchers, in den Kapiteln 1 und 2, umrissen. Auf den restlichen 60 Seiten erläutert WERNET die Methode anhand von Beispielen, was den Einstieg in die Objektive Hermeneutik um einiges erleichtert. Ich würde dem Leser dennoch empfehlen, sich nicht gleich mit den Beispielen zu befassen, sondern sich zunächst einmal mit dem ersten Teil des Buches auseinanderzusetzen. Dies ist nicht immer einfach, trägt aber zum allgemeinen Verständnis bei. Die Kapitel bauen aufeinander auf und ein Springen zwischen Kapiteln ist erst ratsam, wenn man das Buch zumindest einmal von vorne bis hinten sequentiell durchgelesen hat. Nach der theoretischen Einleitung geht es im dritten Kapitel des Buches um den Dreischritt, der für die Interpretationstechnik der Objektiven Hermeneutik von grundlegender Bedeutung ist. Die Interpretationstechnik des Dreischritts wird anhand von drei Beispielsätzen erläutert und beinhaltet das Erzählen von Geschichten, das Bilden von Lesarten und das Rekonstruieren einer Fallstruktur. Im vierten Kapitel wird eine vollständige Interpretationssequenz, in der Sprache der Objektiven Hermeneutik: eine Fallrekonstruktion, am Beispiel eines Lehrerinterviews durchgeführt. Abgerundet wird das Buch durch eine Zusammenfassung aller wichtigen Regeln und Maxime auf den letzten fünf Seiten. Zielgruppe des Buches sind Forschende, die sich erstmals mit der Objektiven Hermeneutik beschäftigen wollen um sie möglicherweise als ein Interpretationswerkzeug zu verwenden. Insgesamt betrachtet ist es WERNET gelungen, dem interessierten Neuling einen Einblick in das Verfahren zu geben, und das Buch ist sicherlich auch geeignet, Anwendern der Methode als komprimiertes Referenzwerk zu dienen. Ob WERNET den Leser von der Güte der Methodik überzeugt, muss jeder für sich selbst entscheiden. WERNET geht in seiner Abhandlung auf häufig genannte Kritikpunkte ein und gibt oftmals auch einleuchtende Antworten. In mindestem einem Punkt konnte er mich aber nicht überzeugen: Und das ist der Anspruch der Objektiven Hermeneutik, die einzige Methode zu sein, die die soziale Wirklichkeit angemessen darstellen kann. In Abschnitt 3 dieser Rezension zeige ich die Unhaltbarkeit dieser Behauptung anhand der von der Objektiven Hermeneutik selbst erstellten Grund- und Regelsätzen auf.

In this small book, WERNET presents both the theoretical background of Objective Hermeneutics and the practical details of how to use the method. The emphasis throughout is on the description of the technical aspects of this sequential method of text interpretation. The most important theoretical concepts and assumptions are explained in the first third of the book, Chapters 1 and 2. In the remaining 60 pages, WERNET applies the principles of the method by the use of examples. Understanding is greatly facilitated by this way of structuring the book. Even though the examples in the later chapters are easier to read, I would not advise skipping the earlier theoretical part, as important aspects would be missed. The chapters of the book build upon each other and jumping between sections is only advisable after one has read the book cover to cover at least once. The theoretical introduction is followed in chapter 3 by an explanation and application of the most essential technique in objective hermeneutics, the "three-stages" of: telling stories, building readings, and reconstructing a case structure. In chapter 4 a full interpretation or case reconstruction is presented, exemplified by data from an interview with a teacher. In the last five pages of the book, all principles and rules of the method are presented in a condensed format. WERNET's target group is researchers who want to learn more about the method in general and those who plan to choose it as an interpretive tool for their own work. The book succeeds in providing the interested beginner with a good insight into objective hermeneutics, its theoretical underpinning and techniques. Once more experience has been gained, the book is likely to continue to serve as a point of reference. Whether WERNET's introduction also convinces the reader of the method's merits is a matter of personal decision. WERNET does provide answers to a number of issues that have been raised previously. One issue, however, remains unresolved: the stated claim that only when applying the rigorous interpretive techniques of objective hermeneutics is it possible to present social reality adequately. In parts 3 and 4 of this review, I refute (or at least try to refute) this claim by measuring objective-hermeneutics against its own standards and rules.

En este pequeño libro, WERNET presenta tanto el trasfondo teórico de la Hermenéutica Objetiva como los detalles prácticos de cómo usar el método. El énfasis es en la descripción de los aspectos técnicos de este método secuencial de la interpretación del texto. Los supuestos y conceptos teóricos más importantes son explicados en el primer tercio del libro, capítulos 1 y 2. En las 60 páginas restantes, WERNET aplica los principios del método mediante el uso de ejemplos. El entendimiento es ampliamente facilitado mediante esta forma de estructurar el libro. Aún cuando los ejemplos en los últimos capítulos son más fáciles de leer, no aconsejo saltar la primera parte teórica dado que se perderían aspectos teóricos importantes. Sobreponer capítulos y el salto de secciones sólo es aconsejable después que se ha leído el libro de cubierta a cubierta, por lo menos una vez. La introducción teórica es seguida en el capítulo 3 mediante una explicación y aplicación de la técnica más esencial de la hermenéutica objetiva, las "tres etapas" de: contar historias, construcción de lecturas y reconstrucción de la estructura de un caso. En el capítulo 4 se presenta una interpretación completa o reconstrucción de un caso, ejemplificado con los datos de una entrevista a un maestro. En las últimas cinco páginas del libro, todos los principios y reglas de métodos son presentados en un formato condensado. El foco de WERNET son los investigadores que quieren aprender más acerca del método en general y aquellos que planean seleccionarlo como un instrumento interpretativo para su propio trabajo. El libro proporciona al iniciado interesado un buen reconocimiento sobre la hermenéutica objetiva, sus soportes teóricos y técnicas. Una vez más, la experiencia ha sido propiciada; el libro probablemente continuará sirviendo como un punto de referencia. Si la introducción de WERNET además convence al lector de los méritos del método, es una cuestión de decisión personal. WERNET proporciona respuestas a una serie de cuestiones que se han planteado antes. Una de ellas, sin embargo, continúa sin resolverse: la cuestión de que solamente cuando se aplican las técnicas interpretativas rigurosas de la hermenéutica objetiva es posible presentar adecuadamente la realidad social. En las partes 3 y 4 de esta revisión yo refuto este planteamiento (o al menos trato de hacerlo), comparando la hermenéutica objetiva contra sus propios estándares y reglas.
