Insights Through Performative Approaches

Abstract

Dieser Artikel beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, in welcher Weise gestalterische Methodenansätze in Forschung und Beratung genutzt werden können, um das Verständnis von sozialen Situationen zu vertiefen. Dabei gehen die Autorinnen davon aus, dass die hinter der "Gestalt" von Darstellungen liegende Bedeutung genutzt werden kann, um Erkenntnis zu generieren. Der vorliegende Artikel ist in Form eines Theaterstücks (Drehbuch) in 6 Akten geschrieben, in dem eine Gruppe von Wissenschaftler/innen und Berater/innen dialogisch versucht, ein gemeinsames theoretisches Verständnis unterschiedlicher gestalterischer Ansätze zu entwickeln und diese im Folgenden experimentell auf einen Praxisfall aus der Beratung zu übertragen. Am Ende reflektiert die Gruppe den Erkenntnisgewinn der eingesetzten Methoden. Die Autorinnen konstatieren, dass traditionell rationalistische Methodenansätze nur schwerlich in der Lage sind, zugrunde liegende – häufig unbewusste – Motive, Bedeutungen und Emotionen von sozialen Situationen zu explizieren. Gestalterische Methoden können dagegen Bedeutung und Verständnis jenseits von Kognition und Ratio zu entfalten helfen. Insbesondere ermöglichen kreative Zugänge, wie das Malen von Bildern, Metaphern, Rollenspiele oder Märchen, das Einnehmen unterschiedlicher Perspektiven auf soziale Situationen und generieren damit ein Verständnis auf einem höheren Niveau. Das Drehbuch endet mit praktischen Implikationen für die Aktionsforschung im Rahmen der Unternehmensberatung und -entwicklung.

This script aims to explore how performative approaches can be used to enhance the understanding of social situations by going beyond the presenting or outermost layer of a problem. The script evolves in six acts and focuses on a group of academics and consultants who meet to develop a theoretical understanding of performative approaches, to experiment with performative approaches by applying them to a consulting case, and finally to reflect on the learning experiences and the understanding of social situations implicit in the case. We found that with traditional scientific methods it may be difficult to understand the underlying—often unconscious—dynamics, emotions and resistances within social situations. Using performative approaches opens up the possibility to gain an understanding of the social situation beyond the rational and cognitive level. In particular, the use of creative approaches like painting, role-plays or fairy tales may allow new and alternative perspectives and interpretations of a social situation to emerge. The script concludes with practical implications for action research in the context of organizational consulting and development.

Este guión busca explorar cómo pueden usarse los enfoques performativos para enriquecer la comprensión de las situaciones sociales yendo más allá de la presentación superficial de un problema. El guión se desarrolla en seis actos y se concentra en un grupo de académicos y consultores que se reúnen para desarrollar una comprensión teórica de los enfoques performativos, experimentar con los enfoques performativos aplicándolos a un caso de consulta y reflexionar sobre las experiencias de aprendizaje y la comprensión de las situaciones sociales implícitas en el caso. Descubrimos que, con los métodos científicos tradicionales, puede ser difícil comprender las dinámicas, emociones y resistencias subyacentes – a menudo inconscientes – en las situaciones sociales. El uso de enfoques performativos abre la posibilidad de de ganar en la comprensión de las situación social más allá del nivel racional y cognitivo. En particular, el uso de enfoques creativos como la pintura, la dramatización o los cuentos de hadas pueden permitir la aparición de nuevas perspectivas e interpretaciones alternativas de una situación social. El guión concluye con las implicaciones prácticas para la investigación-acción en el contexto de la consulta organizativa y el desarrollo.
