Review Essay: Konstruktivismus ist die Erfindung eines Kritikers

Abstract

Was wir als Wirklichkeit wahrnehmen, ist unsere Erfindung; wir entdecken nicht, wir erfinden die Welt. Diese zentrale These wird aus der neurophysiologischen Forschung ab­geleitet. Aber wie radikal ist FOERSTERs Konstruktivismus dann "wirklich"? Ist er nicht ebenfalls ein empirischer sowie sozialer Konstruktivismus mit ein wenig Realismus darin? Und was sollen wir mit derartigen akademischen Fragen anfangen, wenn die Weise, in der wir eine Frage stellen, die Art der Antwort bestimmt, die wir erhalten können ? – Der Physiker und Philosoph Heinz von FOERSTER und der Journalist und Kommunikationswissenschaftler Bernhard PÖRKSEN unterhalten sich über die menschliche Sinneswahrnehmung und die Grenzen unseres Erkenntnisvermögens, der Kommunikation und des Verstehens. Sie debattieren über Wahrheit, Objektivität und Verantwortung und diskutieren über den Zusammenhang von Erkenntnis, Ethik und Praxis. – Ich wurde um einige Aphorismen, Anekdoten und Aporien bereichert, jedoch bin ich nicht imstande endgültige Antworten auf obige Fragen zu geben. Das Buch ist interessant für Leute, die sophistische Gespräche mögen, aber nicht sonderlich hilfreich für qua­litative Sozialforschung.

The world, as we perceive it, is our own invention, so we always invent and never discover realities. This main thesis is grounded on neurophysiological research. But how radical then is FOERSTER's constructivism "really"? Is it not also an empirical as well as a social constructivism plus some realism in it, too? And what shall we do with such academic questions if "the way in which a question is asked determines the way in which an answer may be found"? The physicist and philosopher Heinz von FOERSTER and the journalist and communication scientist Bernhard PÖRKSEN talk about the sensual perception of human beings and the borders of our capacity for knowledge, communication and understanding. They debate about truth, objectivity and responsibility and discuss the connections between knowledge, ethics and practice. I have been enriched of some of the aphorisms, anecdotes and aporias, still, I am not able to answer the questions asked above conclusively. The book is interesting for people who love sophistic conversations, but it is not very helpful for qualitative social research.

El mundo, tal como lo percibimos, es nuestra propia invención; por tanto, siempre inventamos y nunca descubrimos la realidad. Esta tesis principal se fundamenta en la investigación neurofisiológica. Pero ¿qué tan radical es realmente el constructivismo de FOERSTER? ¿No hay también tanto un constructivismo empírico como un constructivismo social con mayor realismo? ¿Y qué haremos con preguntas académicas tales como "la forma en que la pregunta es formulada determina la forma en que la respuesta puede ser encontrada"?
