Analysing Discourse. An Approach From the Sociology of Knowledge

Abstract

Im Beitrag wird das Forschungsprogramm der Wissenssoziologischen Diskursanalyse vorgestellt. Die Wissenssoziologische Diskursanalyse greift wichtige Anregungen der Foucaultschen Diskurstheorie auf und verbindet sie mit den Traditionen des sozialwissenschaftlichen interpretativen Paradigmas einschließlich der Hermeneutischen Wissenssoziologie. Sie begreift Diskurse als "strukturierte und strukturierende Strukturen", die gesellschaftliche Aussagepraktiken instruieren. Die Wissenssoziologische Diskursanalyse betont die Rolle sozial konstituierter Akteure in der gesellschaftlichen Produktion und Zirkulation von Wissen und verbindet die Forschungsinteressen der Diskursperspektive mit dem methodischen Instrumentarium der qualitativen Sozialforschung. Mit Analysekonzepten wie "Deutungsmuster", "Klassifikationen", "Phänomenstruktur", "narrative Struktur", "Dispositiv" u.a. und im Rückgriff auf Arbeitsstrategien der "Grounded Theory" reorientiert sie die Diskursperspektive weg von der Frage nach Sprache und hin zum soziologischen Interesse an der Untersuchung gesellschaftlicher Wissensverhältnisse und Wissenspolitiken, zur diskursiven Konstruktion der Wirklichkeit als materialem Prozess.

The contribution outlines a research pro­gramme which I have coined the "sociology of knowledge approach to discourse" (Wissens­sozio­logische Diskursanalyse). This approach to dis­course integrates important insights of FOU­CAULT's theory of discourse into the interpretative paradigm in the social sciences, especially the "German" approach of hermeneutic sociology of knowledge (Hermeneutische Wissenssoziologie). Accordingly, in this approach discourses are con­sidered as "structured and structuring structures" which shape social practices of enunciation. Un­like some Foucauldian approaches, this form of discourse analysis recognises the importance of socially constituted actors in the social production and circulation of knowledge. Furthermore, it com­bines research questions related to the concept of "discourse" with the methodical toolbox of qual­itative social research. Going beyond ques­tions of language in use, "the sociology of knowl­edge ap­proach to discourse" (Wissenssozio­logi­sche Dis­kurs­analyse) addresses sociological inter­ests, the analyses of social relations and politics of knowl­edge as well as the discursive construction of re­al­ity as an empirical ("material") process. For empiri­cal research on discourse the approach proposes the use of analytical concepts from the sociology of knowledge tradition, such as inter­pretative schemes or frames (Deutungsmuster), "clas­sifi­ca­tions", "phenomenal structure" (Phäno­men­struktur), "narrative structure", "dispositif" etc., and the use of the methodological strategies of "grounded theory".

El artículo presenta el programa de investigación del análisis del discurso basado en la sociología del conocimiento. El análisis del discurso basado en la sociología del conocimiento recoge importantes estímulos de la teoría foucaultiana del discurso y los vincula con las tradiciones del paradigma interpretativo de las ciencias sociales, inclusive la sociología hermenéutica del conocimiento. Entiende a los discursos como "estructuras estructuradas y estructurantes" que instruyen a las prácticas enunciativas sociales. El análisis del discurso basado en la sociología del conocimiento acentúa el rol de los actores socialmente constituidos en la producción y circulación social del conocimiento y conecta los intereses de investigación de la perspectiva discursiva con los instrumentos metodológicos de la investigación social cualitativa. Con conceptos de análisis tales como "marcos sociales de interpretación" (Deutungsmuster), "clasificaciones" (Klassifikationen), "estructura del fenómeno" (Phänomenstruktur), "estructura narrativa" (narrative Struktur), "dispositivo" (Dispositiv) y otros, y volviendo a las estrategias de trabajo de la "teoría fundamentada", la perspectiva discursiva se reorienta alejándose de la cuestión del lenguaje y orientándose hacia el interés sociológico en la investigación de las condiciones sociales del conocimiento y de políticas del conocimiento; hacia la construcción discursiva de la realidad como proceso material.
