Abstract Die Autorin reflektiert ihren Weg als Ethnologin in Forschungsgebieten in der eigenen Gesellschaft und der Medizin. Sie fragt danach, woran sich das eigene Selbstverständnis als Ethnologin festmacht und welchen Beitrag die besondere ethnologische Herangehensweise/ Haltung in einer fachfremden Disziplin wie der Medizin leisten kann. Sie hebt hier das Potential der Kultur- und Gesellschaftskritik der Ethnologie hervor.
