Este artigo busca investigar as múltiplas possibilidades educativas das comunidades virtuais, com ênfase no site de relacionamentos Orkut, analisando suas características, funcionamento e emergência no ciberespaço. Discute a possibilidade de usá-lo tanto numa perspectiva individual – o sujeito traçando seu percurso – quanto numa perspectiva social, visando formar novas comunidades virtuais em torno de interesses comuns, mas voltados para atividades pedagógicas. Dentre as diferentes comunidades virtuais existentes neste site, analisou-se apenas as comunidades virtuais constituídas com a finalidade de compreender as potencialidades da rede nos processos de aprendizagem de alunos e na formação continuada de professores. Conclui-se, inicialmente que a Internet tem transformado as relações sociais e de aprendizagem através do cyberespaço, que o grande desafio é transportar essa inovação para dentro dos muros escolares, sendo necessária a interação entre governo e sociedade acadêmica, tendo a informática educativa papel decisivo neste processo de transformação da sala de aula.... view less

This article seeks investigate the many educational possibilities of virtual communities, with emphasis on the site relationship Orkut, examining their characteristics, and emergency operating in cyberspace. It discusses the possibility of using booth ways in a single subject-the-mapping his journey as a social perspective, to form new virtual communities around common interests, but facing educational activities. Among the various virtual communities in this site, is considered only the virtual communities formed for the purpose of understanding the potential of network in the learning process of students and the continues training of teachers. Initially concludes that the Internet has transformed social and learning relations through the cyberspace that the great challenge is to carry this innovation within the school walls, been necessary the interaction between government and academic society, and the technological educational system a decisive role in this process of transformation of the classroom.... view less
