Civil disobedience is mainly a way of political activity: A strategic means of collective action. It can be considered as a participatory device in the formation of public opinion and as a particular way to influence the law-making process in a democratic political system. By practising it, citizens are making use of their public autonomy. As a result of it civil disobedience can be considered an essential part of the political culture in a democratic society. It cannot therefore be misjudged as a political phenomenon without at the same time questioning the participatory basis of representative democracy.... view less
