Objective: to analyze the advantages and difficulties faced by professionals working in the family health strategy cuiabá / mt for the application based integrated management of childhood illnesses (imci). Method: exploratory descriptive study quantitative approach with 101 professionals working in family health units. with data collected from march to may 2013, a questionnaire applied to professional and systematic observation of the health unit. Results: the main difficulties pointed out by professionals in implementing the strategy were the lack of training of the staff members (31,0%) and prescription drug protocols for nurses (23,4%). the facility that stood out was the link with the enrolled population (30,3%). Conclusions: the results boost the reflection of practice for professionals responsible for childcare as well as managers should support the implementation of this important strategy for health care for the child.... view less
