Objective: to verify the contribution of professional Primary Health Care (PHC) supported self-care to patients with active tuberculosis (TB). Methods: quantitative study, cross-sectional conducted with 100 phc practitioners in the city of Natal /RN. We used structured instruments to collect data. Results: 80% of interviews were answered by family health unit professional's; 41% worked in the unit for more than 10 years; 44% reported great capacity for bonding and health education; 55% rated the care as reasonable. Conclusion: we feel the need to meet the patient holistically, addressing their individual social aspects and considering the health services in order to strengthen the bond between patient and professional service.... view less
