%X It has been possible to analyze and synthesize electoral data into simple indicatorswhose objective is to provide a single datum in regards to the observeddistributions, such as in the case of votesi concentration-fragmentation indexes. Nevertheless, there is no index devoid of problems. For that matter, this paperaims to advance a definition of ìfamiliesî of indicators that may fully explain theevent. Therefore, this essay proposes a complementary index for the analysis ofthe actual and effective number of parties in a given system, which we havenamed ìnumber of autonomous partiesî and whose characteristics and specificsare reviewed.
