"This paper deals with certain issues of a longitudinal study of Viennese adolescents with working-class parents of different ethnic/cultural backgrounds that has been conducted in two waves as part of the research project 'Serious Beats'. The researchers interviewed 51 teenagers and invited a part of them to give the game YourTurn a try, which had been developed specifically for this purpose. The qualitative interviews include, inter alia, questions about identity as well as cultural diversity and the results relate to intersections of race and class as reasons for discrimination in our interviewees' lives. Our action research has shown that YourTurn! The video game can support intercultural awareness as well as reflection on everyday experiences and media literacy. Hence, the game is an effective tool for dealing with diversity, communication and diverse contents in youth work and social pedagogy." (author's abstract)... view less
