(Autorenreferat)
%X "The replacement of welfare and social work through penal sanctions is considered an indication of growing punitivity. This view is based on the assumption that social support and penalties are alternative and opposing reactions to delinquency. In contrast the contribution at hand accentuates that critical attitudes towards punishment are nowadays questioned within the social work debate, and the line between support and punishment becomes less clear than is generally supposed. As a result, it is necessary to conceive of social work not only as an alternative to, but also as a form of realizing punitive practices." (author's abstract)
