| Abstract | 'Die wirtschaftliche und soziale Kluft zwischen Rußland und dem Westen und ihre Überwindung durch Reformen und Modernisierung ist seit Peter dem Großen beständiges Thema der innerrussischen Diskussion. Ebenso ist die Andersartigkeit Rußlands ein Trauma Europas geworden. Im vorliegenden Bericht wird, beginnend mit den Verhältnissen am Ausgang des 19. Jh., der wirtschaftliche Abstand zwischen Rußland und dem Westen analysiert und ein Ausblick auf die zukünftige Entwicklung gewagt.' (Textauszug) 'The economic and social gap between Russia and the West and how to close it by means of reforms and modernization have been a constant topic of discussion within Russia since Peter the Great. Similarly, Russia's distinctiveness has turned into a trauma for Europe. The present report analyses the economic canyon between Russia and the West, starting with conditions towards the end of the 19th century, and attempts to give a prognosis of the future course of development.'
