Abstract	'Die Auseinandersetzung mit der kommunistischen Vergangenheit in der ehemaligen Sowjetunion und ihrem eigentlichen Kern, Rußland, ist eine komplexe und vielseitige, dabei recht schwierige Aufgabe. Die Ergebnisse sind sehr ungleichmäßig. Im folgenden Bericht wird der Versuch unternommen, diese Bewältigung in großen Linien zu skizzieren, wobei die Untersuchung mehrere Aspekte betrifft: die Rehabilitierung der Opfer der Diktatur bzw. die Bestrafung der Organisatoren und Ausführer des Terrors, die Veröffentlichung der früheren Geheimmaterialien der Machtzentren, die jetzigen Machtpositionen der kommunistischen herrschenden Schicht, den Widerhall der Vergangenheitsbewältigung in der Öffentlichkeit und die Lage der kommunistischen Partei.' (Autorenreferat) 'The process of dealing with the communist past in the former Soviet Union and its very core, Russia, is a complex and manifold, and at the same time quite a difficult task. The outcome to date has been highly inconsistent. The present report attempts to sketch this re-examination process in its broad outlines, paying attention to a number of aspects: the rehabilitation of the victims of dictatorship and the punishment of those who organised and implemented the reign of terror; publication of the formerly secret material of the power centres; the present power positions of the communist ruling class; the public response to endeavours to deal with the past; and the situation of the Communist Party today.'
