Abstract 'Im Juli 1997 fällt auf dem NATO-Gipfel in Madrid die Entscheidung, welche Staaten aus der Gruppe der mitteleuropäischen Kandidaten in das Nordatlantische Bündnis aufgenommen werden. Das Thema des vorliegenden Berichts ist der Stand der Vorbereitungen Rumäniens auf den NATO-Beitritt. Als Quellen dienten westliche Publikationen, veröffentlichte und interne rumänische Studien sowie Veröffentlichungen in der Fach- und Tagespresse des Landes. Hinzu kommen Gespräche mit Vertretern des rumänischen Außen- und Verteidigungsministeriums und des Departements für Europäische Integration.' (Autorenreferat)

'In July 1997, NATO's Madrid summit is set to decide which of the countries from the group of Central European candidates are to be adopted as new members of the North Atlantic alliance. The topic of the present report is the progress made by Romania in preparing for membership of NATO. The sources analysed for the report were Western publications, published and unpublished Romanian studies, and articles in the Romanian specialist and general press. These printed media were supplemented by interviews with representatives of the Romanian Foreign and Defence Ministry and of the Department of European Integration.' (author's abstract)
