| Abstract | 'Die Wahl des Präsidenten der Russischen Föderation am 3. Juli 1996 fand ordnungsgemäß nach Ablauf seiner fünfjährigen Amtszeit statt und wies drei Besonderheiten auf: Erstens wurde sie in der Russischen Föderation als einem selbständigen Staat durchgeführt und nicht mehr - wie am 12. Juni 1991 - in der RSFSR als einer Teilrepublik der Sowjetunion. Zweitens erfolgte sie auf der Grundlage der neuen Verfassung vom 12. Dezember 1993. Und drittens bildete ein Präsidentenwahlgesetz die Rechtsgrundlage.' (Autorenreferat) 'The election of the President of the Russian Federation on 3rd July 1996 was a regular election conducted on the expiry of the previous 5-year term of presidential office and was a first in three respects: firstly, it was carried out in the Russian Federation as an independent state and not - as the previous election of 12th June 1991 had been - in the RSFSR as a constituent republic of the Soviet Union; secondly, it was conducted in accordance with the new Constitution of the 12th December 1993; and thirdly, it had a Presidential Elections Act as its legal basis.'
