Abstract "For the time being, the 5 May 2013 Malaysian general election (GE13) has resulted in the preservation of an authoritarian regime that has existed since independence in 1957. Although the opposition won almost 51 per cent of the vote, the ruling coalition was able to defend a comfortable majority of seats in the Parliament." (author's abstract)
