Abstract	Die vorliegende Untersuchung zeichnet Wladimir Putins Aufstieg zur Macht nach und beschreibt seine ersten politischen Schritte als Präsident. Der Verfasser stützt sich auf russische, amerikanische und deutsche Quellen. Er bezieht auch Erkenntnisse aus Gesprächen ein, die er in Moskau mit Duma-Abgeordneten, Mitgliedern des Föderationsrats, Vertretern des russischen Außenministeriums und Wissenschaftlern geführt hat, von denen einige zum engsten Mitarbeiterkreis Putins zählen. (ICEÜbers) 'The present study endeavours to trace Vladimir Putin's rise to power and to describe his first political steps as President. The author draws for the study upon Russian, American and German sources. The report also incorporates the results of conversations held by the author in Moscow with State Duma deputies, members of the Federation Council, representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry and academics, including some from Putin's inner circle.'
