(Autorenreferat)... view less

"This article takes up the recommendation of Nullmeier (2001) who - in the face of the increasing importance of capital funded pensions across countries - made the demand to investigate the normative philosophies and empirical policies of the regulation of pension markets. With recourse to Max Weber's concept of ideal-types three normative philosophies of funded pension regulation and related institutional models of funded pension regulation are extracted from the international debate about the 'right' regulation of funded pensions. This ideal-type 'coordination system' (Kohl 2000) helps to empirically analyse, interpret and compare the status quo and the development of national regulatory policies concerning capital funded pensions. The examples of six countries are used to investigate to what extent a convergence of national regulatory styles towards social-liberal welfare markets or neo-liberal markets can be observed. Thereby, the article also proposes an up-dated definition of the term 'welfare market'." (author's abstract)... view less
